Title: Flams, Ruffs and Rolls

Author: John Beck

This method is meant solely for the development of flams, ruffs and rolls at all tempos, dynamics and rhythmic contexts. The book contains seven main sections. The first three deal with rolls, first tied, then untied, and finally both together. In each section you start with isolated short rolls (eighth notes) and advance to longer rolls and rolls in the context of more difficult rhythms. The next three sections deal with different ornaments, first flams, then 3-stroke ruffs and finally 4-stroke ruffs. Similarly to the roll sections, one starts by isolating the ornament and gradually increases the rhythmic complexity and frequency of ornaments. The final section is dedicated to etudes that combine all of these skills.
