Title: Permutations for the Advanced Marimbist

Author: Kevin Bobo

Designed to build technical facility on the marimba, this book contains over one thousand of sticking patterns that are applied to the process know as “downbeat displacement.” By displacing the downbeat in the various sticking patterns, control and stamina is developed in all four mallets. The exercises are notated on a grid and Bobo gives examples of how they can be applied to chords, scales and arpeggios. Besides the exercises the book contains music for two works by J.S. Bach as well as seven etudes written by the author himself to give the student a means of applying the technical material. There are also two appendices covering the topics of how to practice new repertoire and roll techniques.
