Title: Six Ideas for Snare, Bass and Cymbal

Author: Dave Hollinden

Description: Six Ideas is a six movement piece written only for snare drum, bass drum and cymbal. Each movement has its own unique groove in the style of a drumset solo. Most movements start with a rhythmic theme, usually played between the snare and bass drum, that is developed throughout the movement. The first, third, fourth and fifth movement mainly involve snare and bass with the cymbal supplying emphasis when needed. The second and sixth movement, however, utilize the cymbal as the main thematic tool. The second is a “slow” movement using the cymbal roll as a “bed” for the rest of the material to lay on, while the sixth uses an ostinato jazz feel as its base.
