Kaskada (1999)

Eckhard Kopetzki (born.1956)

Marimba

Kaskada by Eckhard Kopetzki is a marimba solo written to represent a single drop of water that breaks apart, cascades downhill, and the merges back together again at the bottom. It was dedicated to internationally-known marimbist Katarzyna Mycka.

The piece begins with a simple elongated tone with small accents and slowly becomes more and more active until things become agitated and frantic, and then the music begins to relax and retrograde back to the initial calm.

This solo’s chromatic tonal language is appealing to a general audience, and the very quick lateral strokes and large motion shifts in the fast section will both challenge the performer and impress the audience. Put Kaskada on your recital to highlight your marimba skills.
