Raz Draz

Dan McCarthy

October 7, 2010

This fast, showy duet for alto saxophone and 4-1/2 octave marimba has both performers play equal roles.  The marimba technique includs close interval sticking as well as independent rolls, and the saxophone uses the unique technique of a tongue slap, for a popping sound. You can hear a recording of “Razdraz” on Daniel McCarthy’s CD, “Song of Middle Earth” (also available from C. Alan).  The piece is a grade 4 piece intended for intermediate to advanced players
