Amulet, Paul Simon October 4, 2010
This piece is of medium difficulty for 5 octave marimba. Originally composed as a guitar solo, ‘Amulet’ was adapted for marimba by Simon with the assistance of Nancy Zeltsman for the publication ‘Intermediate Masterworks for Marimba Vol. 1.’ Although strictly notated, the music is very free flowing and gestural. Much attention has been given to notating the tempo movement and phrasing, while still leaving room for the performers interpretation. The music is very tonal with several motifs occurring throughout.
