Feldman  — For Phillip Guston

For Phillip Guston, Morton Feldman

For Phillip Guston is a 4 1⁄2 hour long work written for flute (doubling alto flute and piccolo), piano (doubling celeste) and one percussionist playing glockenspiel, vibraphone, marimba, and chimes. Feldman wrote this as a memorial for the painter Phillip Guston who had an incredibly estranged relationship with Feldman once Guston abruptly switched from abstract expressionism to figurative art.
