Skipping Stones (2021)

Keeghan Fountain (born 1998)

Marimba

To tell musical stories, composer Keeghan Fountain likes the variety of textures and sounds of percussion instruments. For Skipping Stones, he wrote music featuring the marimba. He said the music reminds him of fishing with his grandfather and seeing who could get stones to skip more times across the water. But some also see it as—“the melody as a character in…a story that is sometimes happy, excited, sad, and hopeful.” So what do you imagine?  –Marcia Friedman
